SMART Goals: How to Set Goals so You Can Get Results
Have you ever heard of the old adage: “Plan your work and work your plan”?
I don’t know about you but I am sick of hearing this. I prefer to look at goals as opportunities to do something FUN! Without goals you’ll miss the boat of opportunity to grow and fulfill your dreams like these guys did.
Putting in the work and time to set goals is critical. You say you know you need to do this or you have them but they’re just not written down. Well you’re not alone!
According to one study, you’re like 84% of students at Harvard Business School who didn’t have goals (What They Don’t Teach You in the Harvard Business School, Mark McCormack).
Another 13% had goals but they weren’t written down and only 3% had goals which were written down. Well that 3% earned, on average, ten times as much as the other 97% put together.
Do you want to be like that 3% but don’t know how?
One way is to set SMART goals but today I’m going to tell you about S.M.A.R.T.E.R goals.
Let’s break this down using an example…
I will launch my book before October 31st, this year, to increase my speaking engagements by 25%. To keep my spirits up I will have coffee at least twice month with those in my inner circle. When I meet my goal I will get a 60 min massage.
Specific = I (who) will launch (do/action) my book (what)
Measurable = One book (how many)
Achievable = After talking to my business coach and from launching previous books this is possible
Results = Gain a 25% increase in speaking engagements (the end product)
Time-framed = By October 31, of this year (by when)
Encourage = To keep my spirits up I will have coffee twice month with those in my inner circle
Reward = When I meet my goal I will get a 60 min massage
How will you apply this to your life, job or business today?

Thank you for your feedback Valerie! It’s good to know that the example helped!!! One other tid bit is to schedule sending yourself a note/card when you accomplish your goal with your gift. This could tie into your card business nicely. Just a thought.
